KAMEHAMEHA LIONS CLUB VISITS SISTER CLUB

On November 8, 2007, dozens of members from the Kamehameha Lions Club were invited to Osaka, Japan to celebrate the 45th Charter Anniversary of the Osaka Sumiyoshi Lions Club. The formation of international sister clubs helps to foster an appreciation and understanding of each other’s culture. Our club-to-club visit occurs every 5 years on the occasion of each club’s Charter anniversary. In 2008, the Sumiyoshi Osaka Lions Club will visit Hawai`i to help celebrate our 60th Charter Anniversary.

This year’s visit to Japan was marked with three days of celebration. Soon after our arrival on November 9, a welcome dinner awaited us. The next day was the formal Charter celebration with guest speakers and the presentation of gifts and awards. This was followed with an elegant dinner, where each guest received a Hapi Coat specially designed for the occasion. The third day was the sayonara party. This relaxed Chinese dinner (yes, Chinese) brought many laughs. At this time, we made the official invitation for Sumiyoshi Osaka club to visit the Kamehameha Lions in 2008.

On November 12, we left our gracious guests and headed to Takayama, Nara, Hakone, and, Tokyo. We bid farewell to the country of the rising sun on November 17. The best part of our visit was not just the beauty of Japan and seeing magnificent Mount Fuji, but the celebration with friends, new and old, of a common bond: Lionism.
