Zone 1 Vision Screening at Linapuni School

The Lions Clubs of Region IV, Zone 1 (Aloha Pono, Chinatown, Honolulu, Kalakaua, Kamehameha, and Moanalua) partner with Lens Crafters to conduct vision screening of elementary school children on Oahu. On August 19, 2010, although 100 students were scheduled, we screened over 250 children at Linapuni School.

Because of new testing protocols (farsightedness and stereo-vision) and data entry, the time exceeded the planned schedule time. Approximately 80 students per hour can be accommodated with the new protocols. As more students are tested, we anticipate that the vision screeners will become more proficient.

This project fills a current gap because public school children are not routinely vision tested. For two hours at each school, Region IV, Zone 1 Lions and Lens Crafters are making a difference in identifying vision problems in elementary school children.
