Sand Island Beautification Project

Sand Island Business Association, in conjunction with DLNR, initiated this large repair and beautification project. Their big day scheduled for August 28th conflicts with our own Laughs for Lions so we helped with some preliminary work instead.

On August 7 KLC and Aloha Pono Lions painted the primer on about 104 of the reconstructed picnic table benches and cross pieces (about 52 tables in all). These were spread all over the park. Our hard working Lions from Kamehameha - Mark, Kino, Franklin, Al, Warren, Lono, Cliff, Karen, Melodie, and from Aloha Pono - Darlene, Eric, Paul, Howard, and Darlene's twins Chaz and Aquindolin - started at 8 a.m. and most were done by 11:00 a.m.

What a fun project - sand, sea, sunshine, friends, and paint. Great refreshments were provided by DLNR rep Eric Kato, who also provided all the supplies and two helpers, his son and nephew, who painted some tables too. Gil from KOGA Engineering also helped with work and supplies.

A big mahalo to everyone who helped!
